Newnan Georgia Newborn Photographer | When Should I Book a Newborn Session?

It doesn’t matter if you decide to book a Fresh 48 Newborn Session, a Studio Newborn Session or a Lifestyle Newborn Session, the best time to book with your photographer is during your pregnancy. Here are a few reasons why.

Time Flies: I’m sure you put a lot of thought and research into finding the perfect newborn photographer to photograph your brand new baby, but if you wait to book with them until after your baby is born, you risk that photographer being too busy to fit your session into their schedule. Since newborns are only so tiny for so long, many photographers prefer to photograph them as soon as possible after they come home from the hospital. If you are interested in a fresh 48 session, this session is done at the hospital. By booking your session in advance, you will secure your session with your chosen photographer within that desired time frame.

Overtired Parents: The first few days home with a newborn baby can be a bit hectic and overwhelming, especially for first time parents. It’s quite possible that you will forget what day of the week it is or even if it’s the sun or the moon that is shining in the sky. With your world upside down, things will fall through the cracks. You may start to look for photographers during a 3:00 am feeding, but forget to contact any of them. Or you may already know who you want to hire, but days or weeks go by before you can send them an email or give them a call.  All these things may result in you not being able to book a session with your favorite photographer while your baby is still young enough to be posed like a newborn.

Planning and Preparation: All types of photo sessions require preparation, some more than others. The type of photography I do, Studio Newborn Sessions, don’t just happen. Not only does the photographer have to prepare but so does the family. By booking your session in advance you will have the time before your baby arrives to get everything ready. This will also give your photographer the time to plan out your session, order any custom props and get both their professional and personal schedules arranged to accommodate your session.

The Booking Process: Booking a newborn session requires a little more than just calling a photographer and saying “I want you to photograph my baby!” It’s important that you understand what is and isn’t included in the session fee, how much the session and products cost, who provides the wardrobe, props and accessories for the session, where the session is located and what the photographer’s policies are. It is important to give yourself the time to read through and understand the photographer’s contract before signing it. Many photographers including myself require a retainer at booking to secure your session on the photographer’s schedule.  The best time to do all this . . .  is not when you are also caring for a newborn baby, but rather at some point in your pregnancy.

Unpredictable Newborns: Newborns can come early, they can come late or they can come right on time. The truth is you just never know when they will be ready to make their appearance. If you put off researching and booking a photographer for too long and your baby comes early, there is no guarantee that you will find a photographer last minute and you won’t have the time you need to prep for the session or understand what to expect from the photographer.

Once you have made the decision to have your newborn professionally photographed, the next step is to hire the photographer – sometimes, we even know about the pregnancy before friends and family do!

I think the most common this I hear is when the baby comes you are so sleep deprived that the days fly by and before you know it your little one is already month old. So its great to book a session and have someone there to remind you to bring your newborn in for the session and relax and not worry.
